silknSilk n Flash & Go For Beautifully Smooth Skin

The first thing we need to clear up about the Silkn is that it is not really a laser. Most people call all types of HIL (high intensity light) hair removers "lasers". Technically, this is not accurate. The Silkn uses IPL technology (Intense Pulsed Light) removing hair exactly like a laser by utilizing a high intensity xenon flash tube. Each flash produces an ultra short burst of light energy that travels through the skin to act on the melanin in the hair follicle. The light heats the follicle which results in inhibiting its ability to grow hair. Repeated application of the light eventually disables the follicle resulting in permanent hair removal.

You will see after the first treatment that your hair grows back noticeably slower and finer. Like all high intensity light hair removers including lasers, the Silkn works best on those with skin tones lighter than their hair color.

How To Use The SensEpil

The first step is to shave the area you want to treat. Then, you hold the Silkn directly onto the skin and press the activation button. There is a quick flash and then you move on the the next area. This is repeated until the entire area is complete. Normal application time for both legs is approximately 20 to 30 minutes. There are 5 comfort settings and as a safety measure, the first 50 flashes use the lowest setting. After the first 50 flashes the Silkn allows you to adjust to level 3 for 200 flashes after which you can use any setting you like. To achieve fast, permanent hair removal, you should use the highest possible setting as long as it does not irritate your skin.

The Silkn is available in two models - Flash & Go and SensEpil. Both models use the IPL technology. Sensepil is an older model that can sometimes be found at great prices online at such places as Amazon or Ebay. The Flash & Go is the upgraded model and is available in several convenient combination kits. Both models come with instructional DVD and quick start guide, user manual, 4 replacement lamps (Blue Model includes 2 lamps) and power cord.

Compare Silkn vs Tria

Review Of Laser Hair Removal. When using an HIL hair remover, you move it over your skin treating small areas with each flash. The larger the application area of the HIL unit, the faster each treatment will be. When you look at the Silkn's major competitor the Tria Laser Hair Remover, the first thing you notice is the size of the treatment area. The Tria has a circular application area about 1/2 an inch in diameter. Now compare this to the Sensepil, with a treatment area 1 inch by 1 & 1/4 inch, and you see that its application area is almost 10 times larger. This means you spend less time on each application.

What Are The Side Effects?

Most users experience no side effects after use. In some cases, you may experience brief redness, itching or flaking of the skin. For most users, the redness disappears within a few hours and applying lotion will remedy the dry skin. If you do experience any of these side effects, turn your unit down to a lower setting. This, in most cases, will eliminate any further problems. You should also note that your skin will be sensitive to direct sunlight after each application so remember to apply a sunscreen and avoid indoor tanning.
